I bought my first camera, a Pentax K-1000 when I was 15 years old
and have been taking photographs ever since. I was lucky in that
my best friend in high school was a professional photographer
who allowed me to follow her around and taught me how to be a
good photographer. I have never been one to read the manual,
just go out and try it. |
I took photos for my high school
newspaper and senior year was the Photo Editor. As most busy adults
know all too well, work gets in the way and life and the goal of having
a photo of mine be published in a newspaper by age 30. I took the photos
I had taken and brought them to a local newspaper and actually got
a job as a "stringer" photographer. I had my first photo
assignment ON my birthday (was actually late to my own birthday party!)
and had my first photo in the paper three days later. (I gave myself
a 3-day window so I met my goal) Since that time I have been a stringer
photographer for Pioneer Press Newspapers, Wednesday Journal and Northwest
News Group. Here's a sample of Liz's work.
As
a photojournalist I tell stories. So how would I shoot a wedding? I
would tell the story of the day itself. The bride for instance getting
ready, your family getting ready and your soon to be husband pacing and
maybe a little nervous getting support from his friends. Candid shots
of your family looking at you, the subtle smile and warmth. I basically
start in the am and continue to the pm. I generally shoot digital but
since my love of film- black and white in particular, allows me to capture
special moments that I believe makes a photograph special and not be
the usual staged photographs.
